How a staff member enables SMS Manager text-message sign-in in WHMCS

After you make Text Message available for administrative users, each member of your hosting team can enrol their own phone. Staff alert subscriptions and client sign-in enrolments are separate settings.

Confirm availability

Make Text Message available under Configuration → System Settings → Two-Factor Authentication, with Enable for use by Administrative Users selected. A working real default SMS Manager gateway is needed for code delivery. A configured Admin Alert Center mobile number does not itself enrol an administrator in two-factor authentication.

Enrol the administrator

Have the staff member complete these steps in their own administrator account:

  1. Sign in as the intended administrator and open Account → My Account.
  2. Turn Two-Factor Authentication on and choose Text Message.
  3. Choose Get Started, then enter the administrator’s own Mobile number in full international format.
  4. Choose Send code and enter the received code.
  5. Choose Confirm and keep the WHMCS backup code shown on completion.

Staff enter their own phone during enrolment. The module does not offer a customer’s notification number as the staff member’s starting phone, even if a client session is open in the same browser. Review which account you are enrolling before confirming.

Check the next sign-in

At the next staff sign-in, follow the Text Message challenge after the password. The code is issued immediately through the default SMS gateway, not held for cron or quiet hours. A green provider connection check alone does not establish that the code will reach the staff phone.

Keep backup access available if a phone or provider becomes unavailable. Do not change the installation’s default gateway to Log only as an incidental rehearsal once staff depend on it for sign-in. That selection can affect other default-routed messages too.

If enrolment fails, your hosting team should compare the original enrolment stage, redacted screen result and gateway attempt. Do not share an SMS code, backup code or provider credential in a screenshot or ticket.
