What SMS Manager connection tests check in Blesta
Use SMS Manager → Gateways → Test connection to inspect the saved gateway configuration before enabling notifications. Read the complete result: the same button performs different checks for different providers, and a successful result is not a delivery receipt.
Inspect the intended gateway
Open the saved gateway and confirm its name and provider. Run Test connection on that row, then keep any redacted error with the action time. Do not replace working credentials merely because another provider’s test returns different information.
Twilio makes a read-only request to the saved account’s message list; that does not prove message-creation permission or every sender’s readiness. A Restricted API key can grant message-list and message-creation permissions separately. Vonage checks the account balance endpoint; it does not send a text. Amazon SNS attempts account SMS reads and can report an accepted credential even when optional account information cannot be read. That result does not prove the separate sending permission or every destination’s eligibility.
Azure uses a no-recipient probe. Its limited connection result does not establish sender ownership, destination eligibility or phone delivery. An Azure validation response must not be treated as a universal authentication guarantee.
Recognise local-only checks
Clickatell’s test checks that an API key is present; it does not validate that key against the provider. Custom HTTP Webhook checks the configured request URL, without calling it or evaluating the provider’s real response. A green result for either is therefore not proof that the endpoint will accept an SMS.
Use Test / Debug → Log only to rehearse module processing without provider traffic. Leave Email mode off if no email is intended. A successful rehearsal record does not prove any real gateway’s readiness.
Separate a real test send
Send test SMS is a separate action that can contact the selected provider, deliver a message and incur charges. Use it only for an intended test destination after reviewing sender and account readiness. Inspect History afterwards. If the response is Unknown, reconcile it before pressing Send again; the provider may already have accepted the request.
