How to connect the Clickatell SMS API to SMS Manager in Blesta

Use a compatible Clickatell SMS API integration when adding the native Clickatell gateway to PD SMS Manager. Match the integration, API key and sender before relying on a connection result.

Identify the provider integration

Review the selected integration in the Clickatell portal and obtain the API key intended for its SMS REST operation. Confirm SMS capability and the sender available to that account. If Clickatell provisions the integration for you, have its administrator confirm the intended API arrangement before copying a key.

Clickatell’s current SMS API reference documents the REST message operation used by this gateway. Its separate One API uses a different request format. The native gateway does not automatically switch protocols, so do not assume an arbitrary One API or older API-ID credential matches this setup.

If your integration describes a different operation, compare its API reference with the SMS REST operation linked above and ask your Clickatell account administrator whether that integration is available. The module form needs the compatible API key, not a username/password/API-ID combination.

Add or review the gateway

  1. Open SMS Manager → Gateways → Add a gateway and choose Clickatell, or configure the intended existing gateway.
  2. Enter a recognisable Gateway name and the compatible integration’s API Key.
  3. Review From (optional) and any module Default Sender ID fallback.
  4. Save, read the connection result carefully, and deliberately review default and explicit routing.

A blank From field can be filled by the module’s configured fallback; it does not necessarily mean the provider chooses its own default sender. Confirm the effective identity as well as the key.

Understand the local test

Test connection checks that a key is present. It does not contact Clickatell or validate the key against the provider. Log only also does not exercise this real gateway. A deliberate real send is separate and can incur charges.

Compare the original History result with the corresponding Clickatell message evidence using your own account access. Keep an Unknown outcome under review rather than repeating the send for diagnosis.
