How to choose the default SMS gateway in Blesta

Use SMS Manager → Gateways to keep separate provider configurations and choose how messages leave Blesta. A default is a routing choice; adding several gateways does not create automatic provider failover.

Add and identify gateways

Install PD Modules, connect the account holding your licence, and install PD SMS Manager from its Store. Open Gateways → Add a gateway and choose the provider matching the credentials you intend to use. Available choices include Amazon SNS, Azure Communication Services, Twilio, Vonage / Nexmo, Clickatell, Custom HTTP Webhook and Test / Debug.

Give each configuration a recognisable name. Keep production and rehearsal gateways distinct, and save only the credentials required by the selected provider form. A sender typed into that form is not registration or approval by the provider. For Azure, check current Azure SMS eligibility before planning a new sender.

Review default and explicit routing

The first gateway becomes default automatically. Mark the intended enabled gateway as default, then review existing Triggers, campaigns and manual Send via choices. A workflow with an explicit gateway retains that choice; changing the default is not a way to redirect every trigger or campaign.

Default-routed queued work resolves the available gateway when it is processed. Changing that selection while work is pending can therefore affect where those messages go. Staff alerts also use default routing. Inspect pending work and relevant workflows before changing it.

If no marked default is enabled, the module can select an enabled gateway from the saved list. Check the actual History gateway rather than relying on a gateway’s name. A failed send is not automatically moved to another provider; an Unknown result needs reconciliation before a repeat.

Keep rehearsal routing explicit

For a controlled rehearsal, select a clearly labelled Test / Debug gateway in Log only mode on the intended action. Do not make it the installation default casually, because unrelated default-routed work may use it too. Saving a second provider configuration is separate from a deliberate real delivery test. Review the resulting History record before normal operation.
