Enable automatic daily Lightsail snapshots for a WHMCS product
Offer AWS-managed daily snapshots on new Linux Lightsail services by enabling the product’s automatic-snapshot setting. Treat this separately from the customer’s manual snapshot controls and any allowance for manual snapshots.
Before you enable the option
Check that the offering uses a supported Linux or Unix image. AWS does not offer this automatic instance-snapshot feature for Windows. AWS keeps the latest seven daily automatic snapshots; changing a manual snapshot allowance does not change that AWS retention. See AWS automatic snapshot configuration.
Review the underlying snapshot storage costs when setting your customer price. Enabling the feature does not make every resource associated with the service an independently recoverable backup.
Set the new-service default
- Open System Settings → Products/Services → your product → Module Settings for the intended Lightsail offering.
- Confirm the Linux/Unix platform and the intended blueprint and plan.
- Find Automatic snapshots in the backup settings and select the enabled choice rather than Off.
- Save the product.
- If Automatic daily snapshots is exposed at checkout, check that choice and its pricing too. The customer’s selected option can override the default.
- Review your offering description so it distinguishes automatic daily snapshots from manual snapshots customers can take themselves.
Check that backups have started
After a deliberately provisioned service completes setup, check its operational result for the automatic-backup configuration. The first scheduled snapshot is not necessarily created immediately when the instance starts.
Lightsail’s automatic snapshots are kept by AWS and are not listed in the module’s customer manual-snapshot list. An empty Snapshots tab therefore does not establish that automatic backups are disabled. The AWS account owner should verify the automatic-snapshot state and scheduled results in Lightsail.
If the expected backups are absent
Check the actual service’s selected options, operating-system family and provisioning result. Confirm that the saved AWS account has permission for the relevant snapshot feature. A changed product default alone does not establish that an older instance has been reconfigured.
For a one-off checkpoint before a change, use the manual snapshot guide. For recovery, review the restore procedure and its extra-disk behaviour before starting.
