PD Cloud Cost & Margin for Blesta: understand cloud service margins

PD Cloud Cost & Margin helps you compare what a cloud service earns with what its provider costs. The report is for your team; it is not a customer-facing price page.

What the workflow covers

Resource-to-service matching depends on the naming used by PD cloud provisioning modules. AWS billing can be read using the connected AWS configuration; other provider costs can be supplied through cost exports. A provider total without matched resources is not the same as a margin for each customer.

Before you start

Install PD Modules for Blesta first, connect the account that holds your licence, then install PD Cloud Cost & Margin from its Store. Allow the staff group that needs to use it.

Set up your first workflow

  1. Open Cost & Margin → Settings and review the source of the cost data. Confirm which PD cloud services can be matched to those charges.
  2. Set the provider billing currency and the conversion rate from your Blesta currency into that currency. Check the direction carefully.
  3. Choose the low-margin threshold, loss alerts and the age at which an unmatched resource should be flagged. Review the report before enabling email alerts.

Check the result

Compare a known service with its provider charge and configured recurring charge expressed as a monthly equivalent. This is not collected invoice revenue or a complete accounting profit calculation. Recent billing data can lag, so check the report date before interpreting a missing or incomplete cost.

An unmatched resource needs investigation. A report finding is not an instruction to delete a resource.
