Configure and restore DigitalOcean automated backups in WHMCS
PD DigitalOcean Droplets can create services with automated backups enabled and a chosen backup schedule. Configure the operator’s offering separately from the customer’s manual snapshot allowance.
Set the offering defaults
- Open System Settings → Products/Services → your product → Module Settings for the intended Droplets offering.
- Enable Automated backups where the offering should include them.
- Select Backup schedule: Weekly or Daily, according to the service you intend to sell.
- Save and review any customer-selectable Automated backups option and its price.
- Check the order form and offering description against those settings before accepting orders.
The schedule affects provider backup costs. Review current costs in the module/provider rather than assuming backups are included in the server-plan price. A customer option can change whether backups are purchased for a service.
Understand when schedule changes apply
Changing the product default does not by itself change an existing running server. A server already using backups moves to the product’s schedule when its package or options are next changed through the supported service-change workflow. That result is recorded in Activity.
Do not run a package change on a customer service merely to see whether a setting applied; plan and review the operation first. The customer’s Backups page shows the schedule reported for that actual server.
Check and restore an available backup
These steps describe the customer’s service view. Agree the intended recovery point and maintenance with your customer before replacing the disk.
- Your customer opens the service in the WHMCS client area and chooses Backups when the service has automated backups.
- Review the available backup’s date and size, along with the reported schedule and retention.
- Before choosing Restore, preserve current data you need and arrange the intended maintenance period.
- Confirm the restoration only when you intend to replace the main server disk with that backup.
- Follow the service state and Activity, then verify the application and connection details.
Restoring a backup replaces the main disk while retaining the server’s IP addresses. Treat attached additional storage as a separate recovery concern, not part of that main-disk rollback.
If the page or backup is missing
Check the actual service’s purchased option and provisioned backup state, not just the current product default. Review the operation result when backups were enabled or changed. A saved setting alone is not evidence that a scheduled provider backup has completed.
For a one-off manual recovery point, use the snapshot guide.
