How to connect Amazon SNS to WHMCS with PD AWS SNS

Connect your own AWS account to send SMS from WHMCS. The gateway needs an access key, a region and an appropriate sending identity for the destinations you intend to reach. Creating a gateway does not itself send a text.

Before adding the gateway

Install PD Modules, connect the account holding your licence, and install PD AWS SNS from its Store. Open AWS SNS → Gateways. Use an IAM access key for the account intended to carry your SMS traffic. Temporary credentials and role-based authentication are not supported by this gateway.

The sending permission is sns:Publish. Do not choose broad account permissions simply to make a connection check green. The optional permissions sms-voice:DescribeSpendLimits and sms-voice:DescribeAccountAttributes let the check display additional account information; they serve a different purpose from sending.

Add the Amazon SNS gateway

  1. Choose Add a gateway → Amazon SNS.
  2. Give it a recognisable Gateway name.
  3. Enter AWS Access Key ID, AWS Secret Access Key and AWS Region.
  4. Review Sender ID (optional) and Origination number (optional). Use an identity available to your AWS account and supported for the destination. A brand name typed into this form is not registration or approval by AWS.
  5. Choose SMS type for the intended messages and save the gateway.
  6. Use Test connection, then review the full result. Set the intended gateway as default when ready.

Check readiness separately

A connection result is not a delivery test and does not establish every sending permission. New SMS accounts are sandboxed and can send only to verified destination numbers until production access is granted. Identity availability, destination restrictions and spending limits still apply afterwards. Review AWS’s SMS sandbox guide.

Only use Send test SMS when you intend a real, potentially chargeable send. For a rehearsal without SMS traffic, use a separate Test / Debug gateway in Log only mode. Never paste the secret into a support ticket.
