How to connect Google Gemini to PD AI Assistant in WHMCS

Connect your own Google Gemini API key to use Gemini for PD AI Assistant replies. The module uses the Gemini API; entering a key does not enable a separate consumer chat account inside your billing system.

Obtain the right key

In Google AI Studio, use API Keys to create a key in the intended project; import an existing project first if it is missing. Current AI Studio keys are authorization keys restricted to the Gemini API. Keep the secret private.

If your account cannot create a key, resolve the project permissions with its administrator rather than borrowing another team member’s credentials. Confirm the intended account and service usage before proceeding.

Connect it in the module

Open Addons → PD Modules, choose PD AI Assistant, then open Settings → Provider & connection. Record the active provider first. This is a shared module connection, so a switch affects enabled customer chat and automated work as well as staff replies.

  1. Select Google Gemini (your own key) in Choose a provider. The form is only a preview until you connect it.
  2. Enter the key in API key. A blank field retains an already saved Gemini key; it does not remove that key.
  3. Choose a Model from the displayed list that is available to your account.
  4. Click Connect Google Gemini.
  5. Check the provider and model shown in the active connection summary.

Verify the functions you use

Open Assistant and request a short, non-sensitive answer without asking it to inspect customer records or perform an action. A saved Connected status is not an inference test: the first real reply must succeed too.

If you use Settings → Knowledge, try a short non-confidential reference and confirm that passages are indexed. Knowledge indexing uses a separate embedding operation. A successful reply does not establish that indexing will succeed with the same account.

Existing sources are not automatically rebuilt when you change providers. Follow the knowledge replacement guide before relying on the old references with the new connection.

Resolve a connection problem

Check the selected provider, saved key, model availability, project restrictions and provider quota. Do not paste the key into chat to test it. If a provider rejects a request, retain its redacted error and attempt time; repeated requests do not correct missing access. Retain those observations while your hosting team checks the failed operation.
