How to enable the PD AI Assistant for customers in WHMCS

The customer-facing assistant lets signed-in customers ask about their own account and your shared help material. Enable it after checking the staff assistant, intended reference sources and conversation settings.

Review the material it can use

Confirm the intended engine under PD Modules → PD AI Assistant → Settings → Provider & connection and check that staff chat works for an approved example. The customer assistant uses that configured provider too.

Review custom Knowledge sources marked Staff + your customers and manual business-wide Memory. They are shared guidance, not a private document store for one customer. Keep customer-specific details out of those shared sources.

Also review Settings → Data & privacy → Answer from your Knowledge Base. If your native KB uses hidden categories for unpublished or staff material, leave this option off until a supported retrieval boundary meeting your audience requirements has been established. Visibility on a normal KB page alone is not proof of what AI search can retrieve.

Enable the intended surface

  1. Open Settings → Client access.
  2. Tick Show the AI assistant to your customers.
  3. Review Record customer conversations for review and Tell customers conversations may be reviewed.
  4. Check branding and the other values on this tab, then choose Save.
  5. Reopen the settings to confirm the saved state.

The account tools take customer identity from the authenticated session. Do not try to configure an account by putting a customer ID into a prompt. A customer needing human help can receive a ticket draft to review and submit; a draft is not an automatically opened ticket.

Check an account you control

Open the signed-in client area with a controlled account and locate the launcher. Its label and position depend on your branding settings. Ask a non-sensitive question, inspect its answer and links, and check that it describes the intended account and shared references.

The launcher requires a signed-in customer and a ready engine. A session-expired response calls for a normal page refresh and sign-in check, not broader permissions. If the surface is missing, check the saved enable state, engine readiness and your intended theme’s integration before changing anything else.

To withdraw the customer surface, clear Show the AI assistant to your customers and save. This does not erase earlier conversations or information already sent to the provider.
