How to connect Twilio to Blesta with PD Twilio SMS

Connect your own Twilio account to send SMS from Blesta. PD Twilio SMS supports either an API key or the account’s Auth Token. You also need an appropriate sending number, sender ID or Messaging Service; credentials alone do not establish a working SMS route.

Prepare the connection

Install PD Modules, connect the account holding your licence and install PD Twilio SMS from its Store. Open Twilio SMS → Gateways. Keep the intended Twilio Account SID available even when using an API key: the key does not replace that account identifier.

Twilio recommends API keys for application authentication. A dedicated key can be replaced or revoked separately from other integrations. Review Twilio’s key guidance and choose permissions appropriate to the module’s message creation and connection-check reads.

Add the Twilio gateway

  1. Choose Add a gateway → Twilio and enter a recognisable Gateway name.
  2. Enter Account SID, the account identifier beginning AC.
  3. Under Authenticate with, choose API Key (recommended by Twilio) or Auth Token (simplest).
  4. For API Key, enter API Key SID beginning SK and its matching API Key Secret. For Auth Token, enter that account’s Auth Token instead.
  5. Enter the intended sender in From: an SMS-capable Twilio number in international format, an appropriate sender ID, or a Twilio Messaging Service SID beginning MG.
  6. Save and use Test connection. Review the full result, then set the intended gateway as default when ready.

An account identifier, key identifier and Messaging Service identifier have different jobs. Do not put the API key into Account SID or put the receiving client’s number into From.

Check readiness beyond authentication

The connection test reads a message-list resource; it sends no SMS and does not validate every sending permission, From value or destination. This gateway has no alternate API-region selector. If you use region-specific Twilio credentials, have the account administrator confirm they match the gateway’s default API connection.

Review the phone number on the client’s contact before enabling automatic messages; selecting a custom-field source does not change that Blesta source. Rehearse module behaviour with a separate Test / Debug Log only gateway. Treat Send test SMS as a separate real sending action, and never include the saved secret in a ticket.
