How to find database connection details and TLS settings in WHMCS

Give the customer the connection settings for their own database service through PD DigitalOcean Databases, including the engine-specific encrypted connection example.

Open the service details

In the client area, open the database service and its Overview page. Once the cluster is ready, choose View connection details. Enable Client: Connection details on the product.

Copy Host, Port, Username and Database where supplied. Use Show only when you need the masked password. Treat the password and any connection string containing it as credentials; keep them out of screenshots, public posts and tickets.

Match the client to the engine

PostgreSQL examples use TLS through sslmode=require, MySQL through its required SSL mode, MongoDB through tls=true, and Valkey through a TLS connection. Advanced PostgreSQL and MySQL use their corresponding engine’s connection syntax.

Kafka’s module example uses SASL_SSL with PLAIN, the displayed username and password, and the cluster’s CA certificate. Use that module example as the starting point rather than assuming a different SASL mechanism matches every engine version. OpenSearch uses an HTTPS endpoint and can show a separate OpenSearch Dashboards address.

Download the certificate when required

Use Download CA certificate in the connection window when offered, then configure your application’s database client to trust it. Kafka clients need the cluster CA. TLS encryption and verifying the server’s identity are distinct client settings: follow the client’s CA and hostname verification instructions rather than disabling verification to bypass a connection error.

Check a failed application connection

Confirm the service is ready, the host and port belong to this service, the application’s source is allowed, and its current credential and TLS settings match the engine. A Running banner or visible stored password is not an application connection test; provider-read failures can leave stored status or endpoint values on screen.

If the details or certificate are unavailable, check the feature switch and reported provider-read error for the intended service. Do not recreate the database merely to obtain connection information.
