PD Azure SMS for WHMCS: configure SMS notifications
Check eligibility first. Azure’s current onboarding restrictions and announced SMS retirement affect sender eligibility. Read the current Azure SMS eligibility guide before planning a new sender or expanding this installation.
PD Azure SMS sends client messages from WHMCS through Azure Communication Services. Begin with the gateway and mobile-number source before enabling automatic notifications.
What the workflow covers
Templates hold reusable wording, Triggers connect events to those templates, and History records attempts and results. Queue settings, retries and quiet hours determine when queued messages are attempted. A queued message is not confirmation of delivery.
Before you start
Install PD Modules for WHMCS first, connect the account that holds your licence, then install PD Azure SMS from its Store. Allow the administrator role that needs to use it.
Set up your first workflow
- Prepare an Azure Communication Services connection string and an SMS-capable sending identity, then add them under Gateways.
- In Settings, choose Where to read the client’s mobile number. If you use a custom field, enter its exact name and check international number formatting.
- Create a short template and use Count segments to check its length. Review Client Preferences, queue behaviour and quiet hours before enabling a trigger.
Check the result
If you make an authorised test to your own number, inspect History for the gateway result. For queued messages, also check the normal WHMCS cron. Do not enable a campaign just to test the connection.
The sender must be usable for the destination through your provider. Message length can use more than one segment, so check the preview rather than counting characters alone.
