Check Azure SMS eligibility before connecting WHMCS
PD Azure SMS uses an Azure Communication Services resource and a sender already enabled for it. Check the current service position before planning a new SMS setup or expanding an existing one.
Check Microsoft’s current service guidance
Microsoft lists ACS SMS for retirement on 30 September 2028 and says onboarding restrictions began 23 October 2026. Its guidance limits number acquisition to eligible existing customers with ACS resources and existing numbers. Read the current Microsoft retirement guide, including its SMS section.
An older resource alone is not a blanket assurance that another sender can be acquired. Confirm the actual resource, existing sender and current eligibility in Azure. If an acquisition option is unavailable, ask Microsoft about that resource; repeatedly creating resources or re-entering a connection string does not establish eligibility.
Separate provider eligibility from module configuration
PD Azure SMS uses a connection string and a provisioned From sender. It does not acquire numbers, register sender identities or override Azure’s service restrictions. A successful module connection test is not permission to buy a number or proof that a selected sender can reach every destination.
The module’s current gateway uses Azure’s direct SMS connection. Do not assume it supports Azure partner-managed routes simply because the wider provider advertises them. Review the exact sender route before configuring it.
Prepare an existing installation
Record the gateway labels, sender identities, template purposes, triggers, queue settings, quiet hours and scheduled campaigns you rely on. Keep the existing working setup available while you assess a replacement workflow; changing credentials is not a service-migration plan.
PD Azure SMS’s gateway is for Azure. Another provider requires the appropriate supported PD module or provider configuration; there is no promise that changing the label moves templates, campaign work, history or sender ownership automatically. Check routing and client choices explicitly before any controlled transition.
For a rehearsal of module wording, use Test / Debug Log only. A real provider delivery test is separate and can incur charges. Do not send the connection string, private message text or client phone lists.
