How to request Azure SMS delivery reports in WHMCS

PD Azure SMS can request provider delivery reports when it sends a message. Those reports are handled on the Azure side; enabling the checkbox does not turn the module’s History into a live phone-delivery tracker.

Before starting, read the Azure SMS eligibility guide and confirm that your existing Azure resource and sender remain suitable.

Enable the request on the gateway

  1. Open PD Modules → Azure SMS → Gateways.
  2. Configure the intended Azure Communication Services gateway.
  3. Review Request delivery reports and enable it when those reports are wanted.
  4. Save the gateway, then confirm the intended trigger or workflow uses it.

The setting asks Azure to generate reporting for sends through that gateway. Azure-side event handling is separate configuration; the module does not create an Event Grid subscription or an event viewer for you.

Prepare Azure-side handling

Follow Microsoft’s SMS event guidance to configure the intended report destination. Distinguish a delivery-report event from an incoming SMS event. Choosing this module checkbox does not establish a two-way conversation or reply-inbox feature in PD Azure SMS.

For an intended real send, keep the provider message reference from History and correlate it with the corresponding Azure delivery report. Do not identify messages solely by similar text or a nearby timestamp when several sends are involved.

Interpret the two records separately

Module History records the initial attempt and whether Azure accepted that recipient. A later provider report can describe a delivery outcome that was not known at hand-off. The module does not read that report back to update its earlier Sent record.

A missing report is not immediate proof of failed delivery. Check whether reporting was requested for that send, the selected gateway, the Azure event configuration and the provider reference. A Test / Debug Log only rehearsal makes no Azure send and therefore does not generate an Azure delivery report.

If the result remains unclear, your hosting team should compare the original reference with the gateway setting and Azure-side event handling. Do not resend to diagnose a missing report. Never send private message bodies, full phone lists or the connection string as diagnostic evidence.
