PD AWS Route 53 DNS for WHMCS: manage DNS zones and records
PD AWS Route 53 DNS connects Amazon Route 53 to WHMCS, giving staff a zone-management view and customers access to the DNS records of their own domains.
What you can use it for
Use the module to keep routine DNS record changes in the client portal. The record editor presents fields appropriate to the record type: an address record and a mail-exchange record do not ask for the same information. Staff control which zones each customer can manage.
Before you start
Install PD Modules for WHMCS first, connect the account that holds your licence, then install PD AWS Route 53 DNS from its Store. Allow the administrator role that needs to use it.
Prepare an AWS account with access to the hosted zones you intend to manage. Confirm hosted zones and their assigned nameservers before enabling client access. A zone in an admin list is not evidence that the domain is delegated to it.
Connect the provider and review a zone
- Open the module’s provider configuration and add the prepared connection. Keep provider credentials in the connection settings, rather than in a client note.
- Review a zone you recognise. Confirm its owner and the existing records before assigning customer access.
- Configure the relevant zone limits and any record template you intend to use. Read the template before applying it to an existing zone.
- Check the customer’s Manage DNS view and confirm it shows the intended domain. The customer should manage their own zones, not the provider account.
Check the result
Compare a known record with the authoritative zone and confirm the domain’s nameserver delegation. After an approved record change, allow for DNS caching when checking the public answer. If a zone is missing, check the provider connection and zone assignment before recreating it.
