Import or export BIND 9 DNS records through WHMCS
Use PD BIND 9 DNS’s BIND-format tools for a reviewed addition of ordinary records or to save the current zone data. Import is not an exact rollback and should not be repeated blindly after an uncertain result.
Review the source and target
Keep the source file and identify the exact provider and editable zone. Review website, mail, verification and child-zone requirements. Keep SOA/authority, signing keys and server activation responsibilities separate from ordinary record migration.
The import workflow preserves SOA and the apex nameserver set, skips matching existing records and adds missing ordinary values. It does not replace the whole zone or remove live values absent from the input.
Import and inspect
- Open the intended zone’s Records page and its import control.
- Supply the reviewed BIND data and inspect the parsed preview and target.
- Confirm only the additions you intend.
- Read the result and actual current records, including duplicates or conflicts.
- Verify authoritative answers and affected services after activation.
Before writing, the module compares the input with current records, collapses duplicate values and excludes SOA/apex NS. Only missing ordinary values reach the BIND write. Matching values are skipped even when the input TTL differs; use a deliberate edit for an existing TTL change. Different conflicting values can still fail validation, so review the preview and result.
Handle validation and reload separately
A failed candidate validation is different from a reload failure after validated data was written. If the result is uncertain, inspect actual file/record and service state through the responsible administrator before retrying. Do not delete a working zone to force an import through.
Use Export to inspect or save current BIND data and keep the result private where it contains infrastructure or verification values. For recovery, use the snapshot restore guide. For cutover, confirm server activation and delegation before retiring old DNS.
