Take a PostgreSQL database snapshot in Blesta
As the hosting operator, guide your customer through requesting a manual snapshot from their active PD AWS PostgreSQL service before planned application work. The module offers this control for RDS and Lightsail where snapshots are available on the service.
Customer steps: request the snapshot
- Open the intended customer service and confirm the database and region.
- Open Snapshots from the service’s navigation.
- Choose Take snapshot and read the confirmation.
- Confirm once, then follow the request in Activity.
- Return to Snapshots and check the new snapshot’s status and creation time.
Wait for the snapshot to become available before relying on it for recovery. A request being accepted, or Activity showing Done, does not by itself establish that AWS finished creating the snapshot. Avoid repeated clicks while the request is pending.
Distinguish the backup types
RDS snapshot listings can include automated backups as well as manual snapshots. The module’s Lightsail list contains manual snapshots; absence of an automated item there does not prove AWS automatic recovery is disabled. Provider retention and manual-snapshot storage charges are separate considerations.
An empty list can also be a read failure, and the displayed results are not a complete inventory of every recovery point. Check the original service, backing and region against the snapshots in your AWS account before assuming no backup exists or creating more copies.
Plan how you would use it
A snapshot does not add a customer Restore button. Recovery needs the administrator’s AWS workflow and a coordinated destination, application check and service tracking. Read the PostgreSQL recovery guide before changing the original database. Keep any recovery point still required; do not use deletion as a way to refresh the list.
