Create a PowerDNS zone and delegate a domain from Blesta
Create an editable PowerDNS zone, populate the records it needs, then point the domain’s registrar delegation at the intended authoritative nameservers. Zone creation does not move a website, mailbox or domain registration.
Check the intended authority
Identify the correct provider and search for an existing copy of the zone. Ask the server administrator to confirm the authoritative nameservers and server defaults before creating new DNS hosting. Keep existing DNS available during a move and prepare website, mail, verification and child-zone records.
Create the editable zone
- Open PowerDNS → Zones and choose the add-zone action.
- Select the intended Provider and enter the Zone name.
- In Zone kind, choose Primary — records are managed here for an editable zone.
- Select an Owner where the zone should belong to a customer, or leave it host-managed.
- Create the zone and inspect its actual records and nameservers.
The editable option creates a Native PowerDNS zone. Its label does not configure upstream primary-to-secondary replication. Use the secondary-zone guide for a transferred read-only zone instead.
Populate and delegate
Add the required ordinary records and review the zone’s SOA and apex NS with the server administrator. If nameservers were not supplied through the connection, upstream defaults matter; an empty or incorrect authority set needs correction before cutover.
Set registrar nameservers to the intended authoritative set only when DNS is ready. Check authoritative answers, then website, HTTPS and mail separately. Cached previous answers can remain until their TTL expires. If creation times out, inspect the provider’s existing zone before repeating the request; client binding and registrar delegation are separate outcomes.
