How to test PD Azure SMS in Blesta without sending texts
As the hosting operator, use a separate Test / Debug gateway in Log only mode to rehearse your notification text and routing. It records the rehearsal in History without sending an SMS or making an Azure API request.
Add a rehearsal gateway
- Open PD Modules → Azure SMS → Gateways → Add a gateway.
- Choose Test / Debug and give it a clear rehearsal name.
- Select Log only (record in History, send nothing) under Mode.
- Leave Simulate failure off for the first successful rehearsal and save.
Email mode is different: it emails a preview to administrators, and an empty address can target active administrators. Choose Log only if the intention is to send neither SMS nor email.
Inspect the intended wording
Open Send SMS, select a controlled test recipient and explicitly choose the rehearsal gateway under Send via. Enter the intended text and use Count segments before submitting the rehearsal. If a template fills the composer, review and replace placeholders before a manual send rather than assuming every merge field resolves there.
Review History for the text, gateway and result. A Test / Debug Sent record proves neither Azure eligibility nor a working connection string, sender or phone delivery. It deliberately avoids the provider operations.
Keep live routing distinct
For a controlled automatic-event rehearsal, explicitly select the test gateway on the intended trigger and check its category preference and queue timing. Do not create real invoices, ticket replies or service actions merely to test notifications on a live installation.
Adding a rehearsal gateway does not redirect every existing workflow. Check Default routing before changing the default gateway, especially when scheduled work exists. A useful labelled rehearsal gateway can remain available; deleting it is not a prerequisite for using a real sender.
When you intend a live Azure send, first read the eligibility guide and check the actual resource and sender. Send test SMS through the Azure gateway is a separate live action, not the Log only rehearsal or the zero-recipient connection probe.
