Add a service SRV record in Azure DNS through WHMCS

Use an SRV record when an application calls for DNS-based service discovery. PD Azure DNS offers typed fields for priority, weight, port and target so those values can be reviewed separately.

Collect the application’s requirements

Keep the requested service/protocol name and every destination field from the application administrator. Publishing SRV does not start a service, open a firewall or make an application use DNS discovery if it does not support it.

Open the authoritative Azure zone’s records in the module, or use the enabled DNS Manager navigation link or Manage DNS on a linked domain/service. Confirm the provider’s subscription/group and the domain’s nameserver delegation.

Save the record

  1. Search for the intended SRV name and review existing targets.
  2. Select SRV in the record editor.
  3. Complete the service/protocol name and TTL as requested by the application.
  4. Enter the priority, weight, port and target in their corresponding fields.
  5. Save and reload the resulting record set.
  6. Compare every field with the intended service configuration.

Use a hostname for the target rather than a web URL. Preserve an intentional multi-target set and its priority/weight relationship. Azure applies a shared TTL to values of the same name/type; changing one visible row does not create an independent record-set TTL for it.

Check discovery and reachability

Verify the authoritative SRV result, then check the application’s discovery and target connection. The target hostname needs its own correct address, and the requested port/service must be reachable.

If the save was refused, inspect the exact Azure permission, policy, quota or lock response. If the record is correct but the application fails, investigate discovery support and service/firewall configuration separately rather than adding duplicates.

Keep the assembled name and individual SRV fields with a redacted failure for support. Use the address-record guide when the target hostname’s own A or AAAA record needs attention.

See the PD Azure DNS WHMCS guide for related tasks, or explore the module.
